news culture Doctor Strange 2: Zombies in the next Marvel movie!
As the release of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness approaches, Marvel and Disney are ramping up promotion for the film and unveiling an all-new trailer that features plenty of surprises.
Doctor Strange 2 unveils a horrifying universe
Just a few days ago, Marvel and Disney shared a 30-second commercial from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse Of Madness in which we could see Stephen Strange, Wong and Wanda Maximoff teaming up to deal with a situation out of control. Today, this same teaser offers 30 seconds of additional time to reveal a little more on this new production directed by Sam Raimi (the director to whom we owe the films evil Dead and the trilogy Spiderman with Tobey Maguire).
Besides, this Doctor Strange in the Multiverse Of Madness seems to inherit the director’s codes, since the feature film, if we are to believe the latest trailer available above, seems to plunge the Marvel universe into a world that plays with the codes of horror. The atmosphere is scary and Stephen Strange faces visions that are repugnant to say the least. As proof, we can see at least two zombies in this new trailer. The first appears at 40 seconds and the second, a little later, at 49 seconds. Here, Stephen Strange himself is transformed into a zombie.
The film is a journey through the multiverse, so you see different iterations of Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange, and even Lizzie Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff. So the actors have to play that. It’s a great challenge for them to play these modified versions of themselves and a great pleasure for me to direct them. Sam Raimi, director
A reference to Marvel Zombies comics
note that this isn’t the first time Marvel has injected zombies into its universe. Indeed, in 2005, Robert Kirkman, the author of the comic book series The Walking Deaddirects the mini-series Marvel Zombies where we can see our favorite heroes behaving like undead thirsty for fresh flesh. That’s not all, a few years later, the world of Marvel Zombies even offers itself a crossover named Army of Darkness which features Ash Williams as the main character, the hero of the trilogy evil Dead by Sam Raimi. So we imagine that with the arrival of zombies in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse Of Madness that Sam Raimi intends to refer to his very first creation released in 1981.
Note also that Disney has also ventured on the subject with the animated series What If…? available on Disney+. Indeed, episode 5 of the series named What if… zombies invaded the Earth?! features Hank Pym (Ant-Man) who has to face a horde of zombies made up of Captain America and many other characters from the Marvel universe.
A Marvel Zombies series in the future?
It could also be that these sequences of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse Of Madness prepare the future of the MCU since, remember, as part of Disney+ Day, the house with the big ears had announced that an animated series Marvel Zombies would see the light of day. Unfortunately, the latter still does not have a release date, but we can all observe its logo which is available opposite.
