News hardware Elon Musk takes over Twitter with billions
Still at the top of the ranking of the richest people on the planet, Elon Musk has just made his biggest investment outside of his Tesla company. He becomes the largest shareholder of a social network he loves: Twitter.
Elon Musk owns almost 10% of the social network
Elon loves Twitter. He spends a considerable amount of time there throughout the day, when we know his already full schedule. It is an important platform for him and he has just proved it with this historic investment.
Many billionaires diversify their assets by investing in many businesses. They put their eggs in as many baskets as possible and Elon Musk so far seemed to be the exception. With only a few small helpers to startups, he used to focus on his own business.
But that was until today, when Twitter announced, via the US stock market authority, that an investor had just bought 73,486,938 shares, equivalent to 2.9 billion euros. This represents 9.2% of the total value of the network to the little blue bird.
Last week, he raised via the platform the questioning of freedom of expression, evoking how essential he finds it for the proper functioning of a democracy. Questioning his application on Twitter, one can imagine that he has measures in mind for it to be better applied.
Twitter regular Elon Musk
As a reminder, Elon Musk is the founder and CEO of Tesla, number one in the electric car market. He is also famous for having co-founded the online payment platform PayPal, and also owns the company SpaceX, which designs space vehicles with reusable components.
He adopts a daily schedule consisting of tasks divided into blocks of only five minutes. A lot of them seem to be dedicated to Twitter and one wonders how someone so busy can post and react so frequently.
We are used to seeing his tweets which vary from serious to more or less dubious. In any case, he has a strong influence with a simple tweet and his 80 million followers and all shares contribute to the impact he has on the world of high-tech. In any case, he seems to have understood that his power implies great responsibilities and wishes to invest himself a little more seriously in this platform.
