It took 83 minutes, not counting the eight minutes of stoppage time in the first half to replace the injured referee, to finally see the spark. Without inspiration for a long part of his match in Grenoble, the Malherbe Caen Stadium won thanks to a shot from Alexandre Mendy, his first and last of the game. We were seriously approaching money time, finally hoping for a little action, when the attempt from the Caen goléador lobbed an unhappy Maubleu. The ball had been deflected by an opposing heel when he left (1-0, 84′).

Jeannot doubles the bet

We had feared that the light would never light up in the Caen ranks on this Saturday, April 9. Two small heads in the first half, from Deminguet and Abdi without much danger (30′ and 45′), nothing at all after the break, the Caen attack was of a sadness that we had not seen anymore since a long time. After all, the Malherbistes had the right to be in a day without, especially since they weren’t really worried defensively. But Mendy’s goal freed the visitors, who doubled the lead at the start of added time through Jeannot (2-0, 91′). The incoming benefited from a superb tumble from Da Costa on the left side and a small ball from Maubleu.

2-0? Caen is doing well. For the whole “show”, the meeting would have deserved a small 0-0. Neither team was very inspired in Isère, especially during a lackluster first half. Played at a slow pace, this match has long been plagued by downtime, including injuries, and technical waste. However, Grenoble had been dangerous from the second minute of play, seeking the intervention of Riou. The premises, struggling to maintain, were no longer dangerous before the resumption of play in the second half.

Third win in a row

Michel, not on a great day, avoided paying cash on a crushed shot (46′) and another that flew away (50′). Only Bamba, taking advantage of a missed ball by Oniangué, showed himself to his advantage. Without misleading Riou in a very tight angle (47′). Behind, Grenoble did not show much. We trembled for Abdi, violently hit by Maubleu and forced out (57′) and waited patiently for the end of the debates. The best was for last. Caen obtains its third victory in a row and consolidates its sixth place, eleven points behind Paris FC.
