the Blue House of Contis, nest of inspiration for remarkable films

As a writing house initiated by the Departmental Council with the participation of Avant tout chose, the support of the CNC, the Drac Nouvelle-Aquitaine, the community of communes Côte Landes nature and the commune of Saint-Julien- en-Born and in partnership with the Landes filming reception office, the D association welcomes directors for their work on their first or second film which will take place in the region. The latter send their application with their project and if, like Fanny Liatard and Jérémy Trouilh, they are chosen, a grant of 4,000 euros is awarded to them to work, with two periods of residence of fifteen days each, first in April, then in October. “For us, the land is very valuable. Here, we are far from our daily life, we spend most of the time of the day writing and the walks we take allow us to completely immerse ourselves and feed ideas for the film. There may even be experiences lived here which appear as founding elements of the project”, confide the two directors, who have been friends since their meeting on the benches of Sciences Po in Bordeaux.

An anchor cinema

Like their first feature film, “Gagarine”, which is the result of work with the inhabitants of a real city of Ivry-sur-Seine condemned to demolition and which tells the resistance of a young living to save it (read elsewhere), the duo’s second project will tell the story of a family of migrants who have come to settle in the Landes. “Anchoring in the territory feeds the fiction and this goes from the baker in Saint-Julien to meeting the staff of the reception center for asylum seekers in Biscarrosse, passing through knowledge about cranes and their migration from the director of the Arjuzanx reserve, who will help us with the story of the birds that will also be in the film. Even without any real trace in the finished work, all of the encounters feed it,” explains Fanny, her clear eyes embarrassed by the sun but a frank smile.

Jérémy and Fanny will return to the Blue House in Contis in October to continue their work on their film.

At this time of the residency, the duo is in the full writing phase. They will also be supported, for three days, by their co-screenwriter, Guillaume Laurent, a great collaborator of Jean-Pierre Jeunet, in particular on “The Fabulous Destiny of Amélie Poulain” and “A Long Engagement Sunday”. “In our ideal schedule, we would like to come back in October with already a good summary of the film, in order to add the dialogues and then enter the financing phase and, perhaps, manage to shoot here in the summer of 2023! they hope.

“Here, we are far from our daily life, we spend most of the day writing”

These stages of work are often unsuspected by the general public, who only sees the finished product, and a little by their own families. “When my parents ask me what I’m doing and I tell them that I’m writing, they tell me: ‘Again? ! And still on the film?”, has fun slipping the 34-year-old young woman. But these tests seem easier to cross with two. “Between us, it’s more evidence than confrontation. We often have the same intuition and if one is in doubt, the other is there to reassure him and if both are in doubt, we say to ourselves that there is a problem and that we need to review”, confirms Jérémy with simplicity. . What is certain is that now that we have gone behind the scenes, there will be a lot of waiting to see the result!
