At the heart of a month of April of all dangers, Chelsea will play in three days its future on the European scene. Helpless at Stamford Bridge (1-3) where Karim Benzema, author of a sparkling hat-trick, once again took on the hero costume, the Blues will therefore try to reverse the trend at the Santiago-Bernabéu during the quarter-finals second leg of this prestigious Champions League. A task that promises to be difficult but which is not the only subject of concern on the side of London. In the process of selecting its future owner since the departure of Roman Abramovich, Chelsea is at a crossroads and its coach Thomas Tuchel seems to be well aware of it.

Necessarily concerned about this relatively unstable institutional context, the former Paris Saint-Germain coach does not want to leave the sporting aspect aside, quite the contrary. With this in mind, the German technician has already sent a hell of a message to the future owners of the club and this concerns two burning files of the reigning European champion. Indeed, Thomas Tuchel believes that decisions on the future of N’Golo Kanté and Jorginho must be taken this summer, in order to avoid a new season of uncertainty concerning two executives of the first team.

Thomas Tuchel wants to seal the future of his Jorginho-Kante duo!

A situation and speculation that the 48-year-old tactician has already had to go through throughout the current exercise, whether with Cesar Azpilicueta, Antonio Rudiger or Andreas Christensen. As things stand, both Kanté and Jorginho’s contracts expire in the summer of 2023 and talks over new extension deals have yet to take place given that Chelsea are currently working under a strict government license after that Roman Abramovich was sanctioned as part of the UK’s response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. An uncertainty always present and which has the gift of worrying Tuchel, well aware of the indisputable added value of these two experienced circles.

“Nobody wants that with big players and important players these days”said the Blues coach before his team’s trip to Southampton. “It’s a wish as a coach that we resolve that this summer in whatever way, that we resolve it and that it’s clear where the journey is and what the decision is. Yes, that’s the wish. [Sinon] we have the same discussions we had about Antonio and Andreas. Just swap the names. We were talking about it during the winter, then in January, then the agents were talking to this club and to the brother of another. It would be nice if we could avoid it, but right now it’s hard [à cause des sanctions]. But that should be the target for all of us”. The message got through! It remains to know the position of the future buyers concerning the two precious thirty-somethings from Chelsea …
